The Range Fiberart Guild is planning an exciting, two-day class in the spring with Carol Coburn, historical textile expert, weaver and sewer. Carol will teach the traditional Norwegian garment construction technique called Spilesaum. This is an elegant seaming technique for assembling handwoven fabric that makes a beautiful, low-bulk seam for fully-lined garments and can also be used for smaller projects such as lined bags or hats.

Carol plans to have structured instruction in the mornings, followed by facilitated work time with her in the afternoon (and work-on-your-own time in the evening, if we stay over). A free pre-class planning session was held in November to explore project ideas, but you can still register for the class.

The class will be held on Saturday March 11th and Sunday March 12th, 2017, at the Old Cotton School on Highway 53, just 45 minutes north of Duluth. The Range Fiberart Guild is also considering using the “retreat” facilities at the School to make the class a full weekend get-away for participants. The School has hiking trails, a kitchen/cafeteria, fitness facilities and work rooms, in addition to some shops, which would all be available to retreat participants.

If you are interested in the class or need more information such as fees and class times, contact Pat Sterle at 218-410-1843 or pat.sterle@gmail.com.
